Mont Blanc tunnel recently had to change its maintenance plans due to the temporary and unplanned closure of the Frejus tunnel due to landslides. Now the new timetable for repairs and closures has been revealed.

As has been the case recently, maintenance work being carried out overnight in the tunnel (between 22.00 and 10.00) shall continue until Thursday 12th October.

Thereafter, the Mont Blanc Tunnel will be completely closed for a period of 9 consecutive weeks, starting on Monday 16 October at 8 am.

The re-opening of the tunnel to traffic is planned for Monday 18th December 2023, at 10 pm. The Frejus tunnel will likely become the preferred alternative route once Mont Blanc tunnel closes completely. However, the situation remains very difficult for road transport in the region.

David Doninotti, General Secretary of the Italian Foreign Trade Association, recently told trans.iNFO that Italian hauliers will probably have no choice but to raise rates due to the extra costs and delays caused by disruption to the main routes to France and Germany.
