Germany has recently decided to extend border controls with Poland, the Czech Republic, and Switzerland until December 15th. According to a report by German website verkehrsrundschau.de, the announcement was made by German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser on Monday, December 4th, with plans to notify the EU Commission in Brussels promptly.

The aformentioned source notes that the focus remains on the German-Polish border, where controls have been implemented since October 16. The extension is attributed to the success of these measures, with around 3,300 unauthorized entries detected and 1,100 prevented so far.

The primary goal is to combat smuggling crimes, as highlighted by more than 30 smugglers recently apprehended at the German-Polish border.
