LKW Walter will be providing intermodal services to MediaMarktSaturn by transporting containers from Germany to Italy via rail, with only the last mile of the journey being done by road. The move is part of MediaMarktSaturn's efforts to reduce its carbon footprint.
LKW Walter has announced a new partnership with IMTRON, a MediaMarktSaturn Group company.
Previously, the German company organized the transport of its private label items from Germany to northern and southern Italy by road but has recently been seeking more sustainable alternatives.
Due to the higher supply chain stability offered by the Brenner Pass and the reduction of CO₂ emissions, LKW Walter has decided to use combined transport for this important route. As a result, all transport will now be shifted to rail.
A unique feature of this transport solution is that the craneable trailers are lifted onto the train at the terminal and transported to Italy without any transhipment. Once in Italy, they will be transported on the road for the last mile.
“We want to make an important contribution to further reducing CO₂ emissions with our own brands. The partnership with LKW WALTER is the next logical step for us to make the supply chain to the customer even more sustainable”, explains Karsten Sommer, Managing Director of IMTRON GmbH.
LKW WALTER’s transport solutions on the route driven by MediaMarktSaturn have saved almost a ton of CO₂ emissions per transport and trailer (919 kg, to be exact)
