A new AI-powered driver coaching system developed by SureCam has been launched to automate the management of alerts generated by smart vehicle cameras used by commercial fleets. The system reportedly reduces the volume of alerts by over 90% and automates coaching processes to improve driver engagement and safety.
According to Justin White, European Managing Director of SureCam, the system addresses the overwhelming number of alerts and video uploads produced by AI cameras, which can hinder their effective use.
“These devices provide an added layer of risk detection – determining threats both in the vehicle and on the road – but this has created its own set of challenges,” White explains. “By embedding AI into our platform, the driver coaching system can manage and resolve issues without needing excessive human oversight and intervention.”
The system utilises AI to manage and resolve many issues automatically, easing the burden on fleet managers. Key features include a centralized hub for alert management and resolution, configurable automated coaching actions, and real-time in-cab interventions to encourage drivers to self-correct unsafe behaviours.
Furthermore, the system provides drivers with online access to their safety performance data, including a safety score and peer comparisons, fostering accountability and enabling gamification of safety initiatives.
SureCam claims that their “coach the driver first” approach, using real-time audible nudges, allows drivers to self-correct and maintain a clean safety record, ultimately improving road safety outcomes.
